Channel 4's Extreme Cake Makers at The Piece Hall

The Extreme Cake Makers Christmas Special, airing on Saturday 22nd December at 4.55pm was filmed at The Piece Hall, Halifax.

If you love Extreme Cake Makers, you’ll love Halifax and the surrounding Calder Valley – no. 7 on National Geographic Traveller’s global Cool List 2019!

The magnificent 18th century Piece Hall in Halifax, West Yorkshire is one-of-a-kind: this beautiful Grade I-listed building is the only surviving cloth hall in the UK. The immense courtyard hosts a mix of independent bars, shops, restaurants along with interactive heritage spaces. Open seven days a week, The Piece Hall also has a year-round programme of events and activities.

Like Extreme Cakes, the Calder Valley offers a fresh take on food and drink: Sowerby Bridge, for example, is home to The Moorcock Inn, which has already won rave reviews from food critics including Jay Rayner, who described the creative, locally-sourced, seasonal menu as “Head-spinningly good. Head to Hebden Bridge to try the unique seven-flour Donker loaf from the Blue Sky Baker. Or meander through the Grade II* listed Halifax Borough Market - watch the video here. The Valley is home too to lots of fantastic independent breweries and award-winning pubs, from classic cosy retreats like The Shibden Mill Inn to more offbeat choices like The Golden Lion in Todmorden.

If you like the extreme, come walk, run or cycle our spectacular rugged landscape, or climb the world’s highest man-made outdoor climbing wall at ROKT in Brighouse. If  you’re bringing the family, why not have a day at Eureka! The National Children's Museum. Four-legged family members are also welcome: the Calder Valley is one of the most dog-friendly places in the UK.

With plenty of great accommodation offers from lower cost options like the Premier Inn through to great holiday cottages like Elmet Farmhouse or a 4-star Jacobean Manor hotel like Holdsworth House , you’re sure to find something that suits.

We’re easy to get to: centrally located between Leeds and Manchester, and handy for motorway, road and rail links (including a direct Grand Central train from London to Halifax and Brighouse), so book your mini-break today!
