August Bank Holiday Fun in Calderdale

At the Piece Hall you can experience the fascinating Luminarium ‘Albesila’ by Architects of Air - an extraordinary structure of winding paths and soaring domes, taking inspiration from Islamic architecture, Archimedean solids and Gothic cathedrals, which you can walk through and explore. (Fri 12noon - 7pm, Sat & Sun 10am - 12pm. FREE just turn up. Capacity is limited inside so you may be expected to queue. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult - minimum of one adult for up to four children).

Friday night is comedy night at the Victoria Theatre, so laugh your way into the Bank Holiday weekend with Dick & Liddy’s Comedy Club 8.30pm £12.

The Halifax Beer Festival runs from August 24th to 29t at several of our great local hostelries; the Victorian Craft Beer Cafe, Alexandra, Pump Room and Grayston Unity.

There’s a Charity Jigsaw Festival at St Martin's Parish Church in Brighouse is hosting a magnificent display and sale of hundreds of made-up and new jigsaw puzzles for sale and on display, with crafts, tombola, luxury raffle, golden jigsaw competition and food & drink available. (Friday 25th to Saturday 26th 10am-5pm, Sunday 27th 12pm-5pm).

On Saturday 26th August Rokt Climbing Gym and The Miller's Bar present Roktface's Around the World Challenge, proudly supporting Forget Me Not Children's Hospice. Spectators can relax and watch the action from the Miller's Bar beer garden. (12pm-6pm).

On Bank Holiday Monday 28th August Wainhouse Tower is open for the last time this year, so you can climb the 403 steps of the internal spiral staircase and take in the fantastic views from the top of this fabulously ornate 77 metre (253 foot) high Victorian chimney! (11am to 4pm, last ascent 3.30pm £2.50, £2).

Food on the Field is being held at the glorious Copley Cricket Club in Halifax bringing together some of the very best local food producers. Calderdale's very own Phoenix FM Radio will be helping to host the event with live music being provided by several fantastic local artists. (12pm til late FREE entry)
