1. Halifax – History, Culture, and a Piece of the Past

Hop off at Halifax, and you’ll be stepping into a town where history meets modern culture. Your first stop?

Cross the road from the station to arrive at The Piece Hall—a stunning 18th-century former cloth hall that’s now a buzzing hub for indie shops, cafes, and events. Feeling curious? Eureka! The National Children’s Museum is perfect for hands-on fun (and not just for kids!). And don’t miss the chance to explore Halifax Minster, a beautiful medieval church full of stories from centuries past.

Must-Do: Have a coffee and a mooch in Loafers, an independent record shop and a haven for music lovers, serving locally roasted coffee, tea and cakes.

2. Sowerby Bridge – Canal Walks, Good Vibes and Good Eats

Next up, Sowerby Bridge, where the canal meets culinary delights. Feeling peckish? Sowerby Bridge is known for its incredible food scene, from traditional pubs to trendy eateries, like the small plates restaurant Engine, featured in the Michelin Guide! Or take an afternoon for yourself at SOUL Wellness Hub, an holistic wellness centre and vegetarian café nestled in the Calder Valley, with a Float Tank, Infrared sauna, yoga studios, an outdoor hot tub and much more!

Must-Do: A walk along the Rochdale Canal is the perfect way to unwind, with picturesque views of narrowboats and waterside pubs. Why not walk the 5.5 miles along the towpath to the popular town of Hebden Bridge?

3. Mytholmroyd – Listed Buildings, Literature and Local Handicrafts

Mytholmroyd, known to locals as ‘Royd’, is a conservation area with more than 21 listed buildings in the village! It is the birth place of poet Ted Hughes – did you know that Ted’s birthplace at #1 Aspinall Street, Mytholmroyd is actually available as a holiday let? It’s also one of the last places in the UK to make and sell genuine clogs – visit Walkey Clogs in Mytholmroyd to see Clogs being made and talk directly to Master Clog-makers.

Must-Do: Drop into the award-winning Blue Teapot, a Vegetarian Cafe-Bar and Tea Room committed to ethical values, and using Fairtrade and locally-sourced produce.

4. Hebden Bridge – The Coolest Town in Yorkshire

Arriving at Hebden Bridge feels like stepping into an artist’s dream. This quirky town is famous for its artsy vibe, independent shops, and relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Explore the vintage shops, grab a coffee in one of the cute cafes, or take a peaceful walk along the river. At the end of the line is Todmorden, a town where nature and community come together. Famous for the community project Incredible Edible, you’ll see public spaces turned into gardens where anyone can pick fruit and vegetables! Feeling adventurous? Hike up to Stoodley Pike, the towering monument on the horizon, for panoramic views across the Pennines. The walk is a bit of a climb, but the scenery is well worth the effort.
