Holdsworth House has seen its share of celebrity guests over the last 50 years whilst in the caring hands of the Pearson family. Now the Jacobean manor is also becoming well known for its role as a TV set. In recent times the team has welcomed film crews from all over the UK, including the BAFTA-winning crew from Last Tango in Halifax, screened on the BBC. Holdsworth House was lucky to be featured in the final three episodes of series two, when Caroline and Kate escaped for a romantic break at ‘a luxury hotel’. The manor was also the setting for Celia’s hen party and for the series finale wedding of Alan and Celia. DISCOVER 'GENTLEMAN JACK' Overnight break at Holdsworth House with two tickets to Shibden Hall A new BBC/HBO drama written by Sally Wainwright (Last Tango in Halifax, Happy Valley, Scott & Bailey), entitled ‘Gentleman Jack’, pauses for filming at Shibden Hall in Halifax this summer. Visit the historic hall, the former home of diarist Anne Lister, on a short break at Holdsworth House from 24 July – 2 September 2018. Anne Lister (1791-1840) was a landowner, traveller, industrialist and student, and some say a social climber. Lister has become posthumously famous for her diaries, which ran to more than 6600 pages and detailed almost every moment of her life. Already one of Halifax’s most notable residents, Lister is set to become famous worldwide thanks to a new drama highlighting Lister’s love interest in long term partner, Ann Walker. Parts of the series, starring Suranne Jones as Anne Lister, are being filmed this May and June at Shibden Hall where Lister lived with her family. The Hall then re-opens to the public for the summer before closing on September 3rd for more filming. Visitors can wander around the house and its gardens, courtyard and see Lister’s stagecoach in the barn. If you’ve read The Secret Diaries of Anne Lister you’ll recognise many of the elements and places around Shibden Hall. Shibden Hall makes a wonderful trip out, as it is set in an expansive parkland with woodland, miniature railway, boating lake, delightful cafe and walkways.
