    Drawing for Beginners Wednesdays 11- 1pm , September 20th 2017 - December 13th 2017 £150 These lessons will introduce the basic skills, techniques and methods of drawing that will develop your visual ability and skills. You will learn how to use and apply the following: Line Texture Mark making Tone Colour Shape Form Composition Movement Drawing systems including perspective Assignments with clear, step-by-step instructions will develop your understanding of the basic practices of drawing. You will also learn how to apply traditional skills, techniques and theories, while embracing experimental approaches towards drawing. Throughout the course the assignments placed will be within an art historical context.

    Thursdays 1- 3.30pm | Sept 21st - Oct 26th Thursdays 1- 3:30pm | Nov 9th - Dec 14th £120 A structured course in ceramic hand building techniques. The course will include methods such as coiling, slab work and modelling as well as a range of decorative techniques such as sgraffito, sprig design and resist decoration. Groups are small, allowing each student plenty of input and technical support from our experienced ceramics tutor. Equipment and tools will be provided along with basic drawing materials. Clay can be bought from our school shop for £10 for a 10 kg bag. One bag will usually last for one half term.

Using old school metal and grease machines and creating page layout by hand, you will enjoy one of the most aesthetically pleasing of the printing methods. With the support of our expert tutors, students will be introduced to the Letterpress studio, and guided to typeset and print their own piece of work. We have an extensive type library, proofing presses, and a beautiful Treadle Press. £70 All materials included.

    A feast of art and entertainment across Brighouse from Saturday 7th - Saturday 14th October Festival time in Brighouse is fast approaching as the annual Arts Festival rolls into town next month. Starting on Saturday 7th October the festival brings together the best of local talent with those from farther afield. The programme contains something for everyone with nine days of concerts, talks, theatre shows and art. Tickets are on sale now. Cash sales at Harrison Lord and Ryecorn Wholefoods in Brighouse or online via the website (www.brighouseartfestival.co.uk) Ring 01484 711835 for details Some Highlights There's something for all tastes, including: • Roger Davies and his new Band, October 14th • Gala Concert of songs from the Movie Musicals. October 7th • Ukulele Concert and Play-along, October 12th The week starts with street theatre on October 7th from 12 noon. On Monday October 9th musical fans are in for a treat with a sing-along concert. We have an wonderful Bronte evening (live performance and film show) on October 10th and the Daniel Bath Trio playing jazz classics on Thursday October 12th. Classical concerts include Borealis Choir (13th), Jonathan Ellis, piano (11th) and Fiona Katie Roberts, harp (10th). Comedy and Guitar Concert on Sunday October 8th with Hugh Raine and the Idle Guitar Orchestra. Talks are on most days, including Keith Whiteley lighthearted poetry) October 9th, West Yorkshire History by Noel Moroney (October 11th), tales of the real life story of Agatha Christie by Pat Osborne on October 10th, Emma Decent (13th) and Andrew Sykes (humourous cycling adventures) October 14th. For children we have an art and craft workshop on Saturday 7th October and a youth Theatre Workshop on Saturday 14th October.     14th to 15th October 2017 Mytholmroyd Arts is calling for submissions for an open art exhibition that will launch its annual Festival on 14-15 October. The Mytholmroyd Open will kick off a weekend of activities including the Gurgle Splosher, a playful interactive sound sculpture commissioned for ‘Landlines and Watermarks’. The art competition will be judged by Stella Mays, winner of the 2011 BBC wildlife artist of the year award, painter and textile artist Kate Lycett, and Francis Charlton who is known for his political and satirical artwork. Artistic Director Annie Harrison said, ‘We are looking forward to another exciting weekend. We are delighted to be showcasing the work of local and national artists, and after the success of last year’s Night Market and Fire Show, we will once again be welcoming all ages to take part in our Festival events.’ An action-packed programme of film, theatre, music, and children’s activities will be announced in September.     11th November 2017 20th January 2018 2017's Calderdale Open Art Exhibition exhibition will showcase work by professional and amateur artists. Entries will be open from Saturday 7 October – Saturday 4 November 2017. Please read the terms and conditions and bring a completed entry form and the entry fee when you deliver your work. Entries accepted at Bankfield Museum during opening hours- Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm. The entry fee is £20.00 for up to 3 artworks per entry. Please note this is an open exhibition with a selection process and there is no guarantee that all the work submitted will be displayed. A preview of the exhibition and prize giving will be held at Bankfield Museum on Saturday 11 November 2017 at 2pm, to which all entrants are be invited.

    Royd Regeneration, in conjunction with Hebden Royd Town Council, are delighted to announce that Mytholmroyd's Christmas Market and lights switch-on will take place this year on Saturday 18 November in St Michael’s Church Hall, square and Memorial Gardens from 12 noon until 5.30pm.
