2nd September to 14th October 11am  A season of free creative events to celebrate the history and relationship the people of Calderdale have with water and how it shaped the beautiful landscapes of the Calder Valley and the people who live there. A project by 509 Arts.



Calderland: A People's Opera


The Piece Hall Halifax, Friday 29th, Saturday 30th & Sunday 1st 1 October 2017 7pm


FREE but tickets need to be prebooked.


Written by Mike Kenny (whose plays are performed all over the world including the Olivier Award-winning The Railway Children) and composed by Richard Taylor (winner of two UK Theatre Awards), CALDERLAND will be a musical odyssey around the valley’s history and its place-shaping relationship with water, featuring 150-member community choir, orchehstra, large-scale video projections and liove performance.


The performance lasts 1½ hours including a 30 minute interval (estimated finish time 8.30pm). Book your free tickets from the Piece Hall Box Office.



The People's Fair

A family-friendly festival, marketplace and street party. The People's Fair is a showcase for the Calder Valley's creative and ciommunity talent, independent businesses and civic organisations. Expect local food, street performances, artists and artisans, voluntary groups, showcases for local talent, parades and processions, market stalls and exhibition.


Featuring hands-on activities and performances throughout the day including Mr Wilson's Second Liners, Pif Paf, Plunge Boom, 2 Destination Language, Handmade Parade, Fire & Water and more!



Gurgle Splosher by Stephen Summers / Noisy Toys


A playful, interactive sound-sculpture of the water cycle, made with young people from schools in Mytholmroyd. This Heath Robinson contraption forms the centrepiece of Mytholmroyd Arts Festival Day on Saturday 14th October.

Part of LANDLINES & WATERMARKS, a valley wide creative programme organised by 509 ARTS with the people of Calderdale and commissioned by Calderdale Council and the Community Foundation for Calderdale.
