What to see and do

Experience the delights of family fun at our local museums and attractions, or enjoy a day exploring our towns and villages. Delight in definitely different and 'totally locally' shopping – independent stores, fair trade and local produce abound across Calderdale, along with traditional, and more modern, markets.

Enjoy the outdoors – whether it’s the high level Pennine Way, 50 mile Calderdale Way, walks around 50 acres of National Trust land at Hardcastle Crags or along the towpaths of the district's canals. Cycle routes include the Pennine Cycleway and the Calder Valley Cycleway and for horseriders there is the link to the Pennine Bridleway via the Mary Towneley Loop. Calderdale boasts a wealth of parks and local nature reserves– from the recently restored People’s Park in Halifax, to Shibden Estate, Ogden Water and Jerusalem Farm; take a picnic or join in with a special event.

The Victoria Theatre , Halifax (The Angel's Image)

Throughout the year enjoy a wealth of artistic delights at the local cinemas and theatres or experience one of the many events – from the World Dock Pudding Championships, to Scarecrow and Rushbearing festivals, a beach and  ice rink !
