Getting To Calderdale

Getting To Calderdale

Located in West Yorkshire, Calderdale is the southernmost of the Yorkshire Dales and covers part of the South Pennines area of beautiful river valleys, moorland and hill country.

Calderdale is not as well known as its Northern neighbours as it does not fall within the boundaries of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Yet Calderdale has a tremendous amount to offer visitors, time after time.

The main towns in the Valley – Brighouse, Halifax, Sowerby Bridge, Mytholmroyd, Hebden Bridge, Todmorden and Walsden are all accessible via the 'Caldervale' railway line. Northern Rail operate a regular weekday and weekend service and with great day rover fares you can use trains and buses to travel across the borough, letting you leave the car at home. Grand Central also operate three trains a day that will take you to Halifax or Brighouse Railway stations from London King Cross in only three hours. For timetable information, National Rail provide an online live departures information board.

Regular bus services operate to all the main towns, although frequency in the smaller villages and rural areas is more limited. Up to date timetables are available from West Yorkshire METRO.

If you're travelling by car, you'll need to know where car parks are. Most towns contain a mix of both short and long stay parking – follow the ‘P’ signs. Please note that at weekends and during peak events, roads along the Valleys can become quite congested.

By Road

The M62 motorway runs along the southern edge of the area, with access from junctions 21-26 and there are good connections with the M1, M6 and A1.
