From High Street to Independent

Harveys of Halifax (The Angels Image)

Our market towns and villages are filled with small, independent shops selling products that you're not likely to find in shopping malls.

In Halifax, browse the shops of the iconic Piece Hall, wander through the recently developed Westgate Arcade, or visit Harveys, one of the oldest independent department stores, You can still sample high street shopping at the Woolshops  Shopping Centre - Halifax Town Centre offers a variety of appeal.

Hebden Bridge was ranked one of the "the best range of locally owned shops in the UK" by the New Economics Foundation, and has been awarded the Gold Standard (environment award) by the British Council of Shopping Centres in recognition of the high quality improvements made to the street scene.  Enjoy the traffic free-streets and browse the many independent shops by the river and canal - you're sure to find something to suit your tastes.

New life for historic buildings gives a different slant on shopping. Visit the first ever co-operative in Todmorden, Hebden Bridge Mill or Brooks Mill at Elland for mill shop bargains. At nearby West Vale, Andy Thornton's Architectural Antiques packs furniture, lighting, decorative wood, fireplaces and many architectural antiques into 60,000 square feet at Victoria Mill.  Just amazing.

In all the towns, cafe's offer the chance to take the weight off your feet with a soothing drink and a bite to eat.
