Events & Festivals

Calderdale's market towns and villages offer an eclectic range of annual festivals and events, many of which are deeply rooted in the traditional life of the area. 2012 brings even more excitment in the form of the Queen's Daimond Jubilee celebrations and the 2012 Olympics, with events throughout Calderdale helping to celebrate both of these fantastic occasions.

Traditional mummers' plays are performed between New Year and the Festival of Fools in the Ryburn Valley and each Good Friday in Heptonstall and Hebden Bridge. Mytholmroyd hosts the World Dock Pudding Championships every April and The Old Bridge Inn at Ripponden; an Annual Pork Pie Competition. May sees the South Pennine Challenge and Pennine Spring Music Festival.

Summer is festival and show season, with the Hebden Bridge Arts Festival and Vintage Car Weekend, the Halifax Festival, Halifax and Todmorden Agricultural Shows, Brighouse Charity Gala and Diamond Jubilee Arts Festival, Todstock Music Festival, Rochdale Canal Festival and Halifax Food and Drink Festival taking centre stage. The Olympic Torch comes to Brighouse and Halifax on Sunday June 24th on its way to the 2012 games in London (see below for more details).
